What is Historic Montana?

The Montana Historical Society’s Historic Montana website and companion app take you on a virtual tour of selected buildings, neighborhoods, and cultural sites listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Historic Montana’s abundant content is reproduced from the thousands of National Register interpretive signs placed at properties across the state to enhance knowledge of historic places and promote historic preservation.

Get Started

Use the interactive map to zoom in on a historic place. Hovering your cursor over the map pins will show the property name. Scroll down to find Featured Stories or browse by Tags to find your town. At the top right, click on the Places button to browse a list of all properties, or click on the Tours button to choose from historic district and themed tours. Use the search bar to find your favorite historic Montana place by name.

Take It With You

Download the Historic Montana app to your mobile device and use it on your next road trip or bookmark the Historic Montana website on your mobile phone browser.
