Oliver and Rose Wadsworth Residence

Northside Residential Historic District

Great Falls architect William E. Donovan designed this Queen Anne style residence in 1901 for Oliver F. and Rose Wadsworth. Oliver moved from Boston to Great Falls in 1890, bringing Eastern capital with him to spur commercial development. As a real estate investor, he secured funding to build the Cory building, the Board of Trade building, the Grand Hotel, and the Star Cigar store. He also served as First Ward alderman, city treasurer, member of the city Parks Board, and director of the local American Red Cross chapter. He married Rose E. Miller in 1899, and they raised three children here. Rose, an accomplished pianist and composer, co-founded the Tuesday Music Club and later became district president of the National Federation of Music Clubs. After Oliver died in 1930, she served as president of the Columbus Hospital Guild and, in 1941, was the first woman appointed to the city Parks Board. After Rose died in 1944, Cleo L. Michels divided the house into apartments in 1945. New owners returned the home to a single-family residence in 2024.
